I just love reading Joel’s stuff. He is the Windows programmer whose advice I do not find patronizing. His latest article on why people should continue to take CS cources is, as usual, spot on. I agree with his take on IT jobs being outsourced to India. Sure, lots of jobs have moved there but those aren’t the kind of jobs that were secure anyway. You need to prove, almost every day, that what you do makes a difference to your employer. In this day of highly-customizable development platforms and packages, custom programming is slowly disappearing. Doing great work is the only way to keep your job safe; even then, it’s touch an go!
